Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leaders have turned up at the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday morning in a show of support for Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
The court is hearing an urgent application by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan against implementation of Mkhwebane’s remedial actions pending a review of her report on the so-called SARS “rogue unit.”
The EFF has joined the Public Protector’s opposition to the interdict application.
The EFF leaders included Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu, Godrich Gardee, Marshall Dlamini, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.
In addition to the top leadership, EFF supporters also turned up in large numbers outside the court.
Dressed in EFF regalia, they chanted songs and displayed anti-Gordhan and pro-Mkhwebane placards.
In February 2018, EFF voiced their regret at supporting Mhwebane’s assumption of office as Public Protector, with Malema claiming that “she’s going to collapse that office.”
However, the party is now among Mkhwebane’s biggest supporters after she released a series adverse reports against Gordhan and President Cyril Ramaphosa.
